COMMON JUDGMENT
( Delivered by Dr. G.Jayachandran J.)
These writ appeals are filed being aggrieved by the dismissal of writ
petitions filed seeking re-assessment of height of appellants/writ petitioners,
who participated in the selection process for appointment to the post of Grade II
Police Constables.
2. Learned Single Judge has found that there is no necessity for re-
assessment of height since the process undertaken by the Department to
measure the height of candidates was in consonance with the time-tested
method of measuring height through digital device. The common order passed
by the learned Single Judge is based on the earlier order of this Court in W.P.
No. 7020 of 2026 dated 23.02.2026.
3. Learned Senior Counsel appearing for the appellants submitted that
in an identical case arising out of selection process by the Central Reserve
Police Force (‘CRPF’), a Division Bench of this Court had directed the
Selection Committee to re-evaluate the height of appellants therein. While so,
dismissing the writ petitions stating that there is no possibility of error or
variation while height is measured electronically may not be the correct
justification to reject the writ petitions.

WA No. 940 of 2026 etc batch
4. Learned Advocate General assisted by Mr.G. Lenin, learned
Standing Counsel for the respondents submitted that height of candidates was
measured electronically and the process of recording the measurements has
been videographed. In the event of any suspicion regarding calibrating the
height, it is always open to the appellants to seek information and details, which
the respondents are ready to furnish.
5. Yet another submission made on behalf of the appellants is that in
the previous recruitment process, the writ petitioners/appellants were found
eligible as far as height measurements are concerned, but, presently, their height
measurements are shown to be lesser, which is not scientifically possible.
6. We are not impressed by the above said submission, since the
height measurement in the earlier selection process cannot be taken as a litmus
test as regards the height of a candidate. In the present selection process, the
measurement of height of candidates have been done electronically and the said
process has also been videographed. It is also not the case of the appellants that
there was any malafides attributable to the respondents in the conduct of the
selection process. In such circumstance, we are not inclined to direct the
respondents to re-do the process and delay the recruitment to nearly more than
3600 vacancies in the post of Grade II Police Constables.
7. Hence, the writ appeals stand dismissed with liberty to the
appellants to verify their height details as measured by the respondents during
