Writ Petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying
this Court to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to extend the
existing Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus services bearing registration
No. TN-67-N-1668 and TN-67-N-0749 operating between Kariyapatti and
Kundukulam up to Koovarkulam Vinayagar Temple, or, in the alternative, provide
a direct bus service from Kariyapatti to Koovarkulam Village, Kariyapatti Taluk,
Virudhunagar District, by considering the petitioner's representation dated
18.06.2026, within the stipulated time fixed by this Court.

ORDER
( Order of the Court was made by C.V.KARTHIKEYAN, J.)
The writ petition came up for consideration on 25/8/2026, on which
date we had passed the following order:
'' The writ petition has been filed in the nature of
mandamus seeking direction against the 2nd and 3rd
respondents Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu State Transport
Corporation (Madurai) Limited and Branch Manager, Tamil
Nadu State Transport Corporation Kariyapatti Branch,
Virudhunagar District to extend the Tamil Nadu State
Transport Corporation bus services operating between
Kariyapatti and Kundukulam up to Koovarkulam Vinayagar
Temple, or, provide a direct bus service from Kariyapatti to
Koovarkulam Village, Kariyapatti Taluk, Virudhunagar
District.
2. Written instructions had been forwarded by
Mr.S.C.Herold Singh, learned standing counsel for the
respondents 2 and 3 wherein, the Assistant Manager of the
respondent Corporation had given his opinion that this
would require an additional distance of 1.5 kms and that the

roads are little narrow and therefore, it may not be possible
and that administrative sanction will have to be obtained. We
would however issue the following direction:
(1) Let the 2nd and 3rd respondents endeavour to
operate a bus and extend existing bus route from Kariyapatti
to Kundukulam upto Koovarkulam Vinayagar Temple one in
the morning and one in the evening from 31.08.2026 to
04.09.2026 purely on trial basis and as a temporary
measure; and
(2) A report may be filed before this Court on
08.09.2026 stating whether it would be possible to have it as
a permanent service or whether it would be possible to run
the bus only when the roads are widened and obstructions
like lamp post or other impediments are removed.
For filing a report, list the matter again on 08.09.2026. We
make it clear that this is only a temporary arrangement and
only on the basis of the report, further orders be passed. ''
2. A report has now been filed stating that the bus had been operated
from Kariyapatti to Kundukulam upto Koovarkulam Vinayagar Temple to suit the
timing of the school students in the morning and in the evening. Let this
arrangement continue on a permanent basis.
