The belief

The law is not what an AI says it is. It is what you can go back to, read, and verify.

Legal work depends on more than language that sounds right. A case must exist. A provision must say what the argument says it does. A passage must support the proposition for which it is cited.

Search makes the authority discoverable. Retrieval makes it inspectable. Verification brings that scrutiny into the draft itself, before it is filed.

The method

  1. Start with the legal question. Search in plain English, by citation, or with the facts in front of you. Narrow by court and date when the context matters. The question is yours; the search only has to understand it.
  2. Retrieve the authority, not an answer. The engine returns judgments relevant to the question, ranked by what they decide rather than how they are phrased. Retrieval puts the legal material in view instead of asking you to trust a paragraph written from memory.
  3. Read the passage in context. Go to the paragraph in the judgment. Read what surrounds it. Check the facts, the reasoning, and what the court actually held before the proposition is carried anywhere.
  4. Make the argument checkable. Carry the authority into your work with its pin-cite attached. A reader, a senior, or a bench should be able to retrace the route from your proposition to the words that support it.

The draft

Research does not end when writing begins. Verified by LawLens asks:

  • Does the cited case exist? Every case citation is checked against the indexed corpus. A plausible name with no judgment behind it is flagged, not waved through.
  • Is the provision the right one? Statutory references are compared with the bare act in force. Wrong sections, renumbered sections and mismatches between a provision and its use are surfaced.
  • Does the authority support the proposition? A real citation can still be misapplied. The claim made in the draft is checked against what the authority actually decided.

The corpus

Retrieval is only as good as the material behind it. The coverage is published so you can inspect it yourself: live court coverage.

Principles

  1. The source comes first. A convincing sentence is not evidence. Everything is built around retrieval so that the underlying legal material can be opened, read and questioned by the person relying on it. In practice: Every search result and every verification flag links to the judgment or the section it came from.
  2. Show the reason. A finding should be useful, not mysterious. Verification ties the issue to the exact text, explains why it was flagged, and proposes a fix the reader can accept or reject. In practice: No issue is raised without the paragraph, the reason and the proposed change beside it.
  3. Keep the researcher in control. Technology should make scrutiny easier, not replace it. You review the material, decide what belongs in your work, and sign the draft. In practice: Nothing changes in a DOCX until you accept it. Ignored issues stay ignored.
  4. Be clear about the limits. Not found in the index does not mean nonexistent. A verification report is not a legal opinion, a guarantee of correctness, or a prediction of an outcome. In practice: Coverage is published and live, so you can see exactly what was and was not checked.
