Assent of President of India first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary, Part I dated the 7th January, 1980. An Act to provide for the establishment of public libraries in the State of West Bengal and to regulate, guide, [control and supervise the libraries] [Words substituted for the words 'control, supervise and to grant recognition to the existing libraries in the State' by W.B. Act 24 of 1985.] as also to provide for a comprehensive rural and urban [library and information service] [Words substituted for the words 'library service' by W.B. Act 41 of 1994.] in the State of West Bengal; Whereas it is expedient to provide for the establishment of public libraries in the State of West Bengal and to regulate, guide, [control and supervise the libraries] [Words substituted for the words 'control, supervise and to grant recognition to the existing libraries in the State' by W.B. Act 24 of 1985.] as also to provide for a comprehensive rural and urban [library and information service] [Words substituted for the words 'library service' by W.B. Act 41 of 1994.] in the State of West Bengal; It is hereby enacted as follows. -
