Challenge to cancelled recruitment notification was closed as infructuous.

The applicants sought a direction requiring the respondents to grant a one-time, two-year relaxation of the upper age limit for direct recruitment to the post of Agricultural Officer, pursuant to a recruitment notification dated 18 November 2022.

During the proceedings, the respondents’ counsel produced a letter dated 24 April 2026 enclosing an order dated 21 October 2024 cancelling that notification, and submitted that the OA had consequently become infructuous.

1. Whether cancellation of the recruitment notification challenged in the OA rendered the applicants’ claim for age relaxation infructuous.

2. Whether the OA and pending miscellaneous applications should be closed following that cancellation.

It proceeded on the basis that the OA had become infructuous because the recruitment notification that was the subject of the applicants’ requested relief had been cancelled.

The applicants’ requested age relaxation related specifically to recruitment under the notification dated 18 November 2022. The respondents informed the Tribunal that this notification had been cancelled by an order dated 21 October 2024.

In light of that cancellation, the Tribunal accepted the respondents’ submission that the OA had become infructuous.

Directed that any pending miscellaneous applications also stand closed, and made no order as to costs.
